3.2 How to connect the ETR online using a SIM card

STEP 1
SIM CARD SETUP

Disable sim card pin security – Ensure your SIM card does not have any PIN security enabled

Load airtime: This will ensure your sim card is active and works.

Buy data: Buy a data bundle for your sim card using *544#. You can buy as low as for 50ksh (no expiry bundle). This will be sufficient for monthly usage. 

Test sim data access: Test your sim card by inserting it into your phone and simply browsing google.com. If it works, it means your sim card is setup and ready.

Insert the SIM into the sim slot in the ETR and in the correct position (refer to attached pic).

Proceed to step 2


STEP 2
SWITCH TO GSM MODE

Select Settings
Select Wireless mode settings
Enter PIN: 6633
Press Enter
Select ‘Set to Mobile Network’
Press Enter.

The ETR will prompt you to ‘power off then power on’. Please do that.

Let it power on and monitor the top of the home screen and you should see the progression of the ‘ST:” status from 0 to 100 and finally display Online
